How to Choose an Online Paramedic Degree Program

Some individuals are driven by experience or innate desire to help people in their time of need. It's a noble ambition but one that challenges them to prepare for a career thoughtfully.  If their goal is to give emergency aid and transport injured parties to a hospital for further treatment, then a paramedic degree may be the path to their dream job.

What are the state licensing requirements for paramedics? That's the first question a prospective student must answer. The paramedic degree program must meet those requirements and in some states, the program must meet national standards because a future emergency medical service employee may have to pass a test for national certification. In this case, it is paramount that the paramedic degree program properly prepares the student for this challenge.

How much time can the student devote to school? If it is necessary to work while earning a degree, an online paramedic degree program or online emergency management degree could be very helpful. Distance learning is then combined with hands on classes on a schedule that allows him or her to work as much as possible. In most cases, the student will earn a two-year college degree.

Does a Law Enforcement Degree Replace Police Academy Training?

There is more than one way to become a police officer. One path is to enroll in a police academy training program.  Entry requirements vary from state to state but the minimum educational standard is a high school diploma. Many police academy training programs accept prior military training in lieu of a college degree.  Individuals with a military police background come to the academy with experience in arrest techniques and weapons use. If this training is combined with law enforcement degree it enhances the chances an applicant has to enter a police academy.

What are the state requirements for police officers? This varies somewhat and it is essential to fulfill the educational requirements in the state the individual will work. The trend for the future is to combine a law enforcement degree with police academy training.
