Lowest Cost, Best Value Online Degree Programs

With the economy in a down slide, and many people finding themselves unemployed, going back to school until the job market expands is an option that is becoming increasingly popular.  However, most of us need to cut costs as much as possible.  Are there low-cost alternatives for earning a college degree?  Which schools offer the best value online degree?  And are those options viable?

Online accredited degree programs are fundamentally more cost effective than traditional on-campus degree programs for several reasons.  Additionally, they are becoming more widely accepted than ever before by employers.  (See Online Degrees - Do Employers Like Them?)

Here is where the cost savings starts:

  • First, there is no cost for traveling to and from a classroom location.  Because students may study from their home or office, or from anywhere they have access to a computer with an Internet connection, they don't have out of pocket expenses for car, gas, and parking, etc..
  • Most online degree programs include all of the study materials online, and they are included in the cost of the tuition - so there are no additional expensive text books to purchase.
  • For adults with family responsibilities, online degree programs are the perfect choice since they don't have to leave home and hire a babysitter while they attend classes.
  • Most online curriculum are self-paced, so students can study any day and any time it is most convenient for them, and, if motivated, finish their degree faster than with a traditional degree program.
  • You can save in other ways, too.  Since there is no travel, and since students may study anytime their own schedule allows, you don't have to quit your job in order to attend classes.  So, there is no lost income if you currently have good employment.

Some top accredited universities offer accelerated online degree programs that may be finished in as little as 10 - 24 months, entirely online, saving you both time and money.  Some of these schools include:  American InterContinental University Online (AIU); University of Phoenix Online; and  Colorado Technical University Online.

Some of the most lowest cost online accredited degree programs are available from some good universities such as American Sentinel University and Ashford University.  Both of these universitites pride themselves on providing a high quality education at the lowest possible cost.

Whether you have found yourself unemployed, or you have a good job that you want to keep for now, online accredited degree programs through distance learning are one of the best values, and among the lowest cost alternatives.

Online Degrees - Do Employers Like Them?

Earning an online degree is much more convenient, especially for adult students, than attending an on-campus program.  However, just earning a degree is not much help in furthering a career or establishing a new career if that degree does not have meaning.  At one time online degrees were subject to suspicion.  There were degrees that could be purchased online from degree mills, without ever studying for that degree.

Things have changed drastically in the past few years.  Not only do most employers value an online degree as much as one earned at a traditional on-campus program, but they often encourage current employees to pursue the online option so that they can continue working while they earn their degree.

Most Popular Online Accredited Degree Programs
